THE TALMID-CHAVER STORY
The year was 1983. It was an exciting time to be newly-religious. With all the love and support of a traditional Jewish family, Ron-Ami Meyers lacked the tools to grasp the main subject of study at yeshiva: The Talmud.
The ancient words, כי מציון תורה ודבר ה' מירושלים ("For out of Zion the Torah goes forth and the word of Hashem from Jerusalem") led Ron-Ami on a personal quest for the ideal yeshiva, which he found in Jerusalem. He spent an eye-opening year with master teachers: Their focus on key Talmudic phrases and logical structures opened up a fascinating new world of classical learning to the recent college graduate.
The impact of that year and seven more years of yeshiva inspired Ron-Ami to dedicate his life to Jewish education and outreach.
For the last two decades, Rabbi Meyers has been educating students of all ages and backgrounds in both the United States and Israel. Since 2008, Rabbi Meyers has become known as someone able to translate his success in the traditional classroom to the virtual classroom.
The launch of Talmid-Chaver makes structured, skill-based Talmud study available to Jews everywhere. Talmid-Chaver guides motivated students through the Sea of Talmud. Its crisp, clear text-based video shiurim enable students to:
- identify the key Talmudic terms that highlight the direction of a sugyah
- uncover the assumptions of the Gemara and grasp its logic
- internalize their learning through multiple-choice quizzes and vocabulary reviews
With free consultations for educators, Talmid-Chaver looks forward to bringing its method to Jewish classrooms around the world.
